Frequently Asked Questions
Hair Straightening
How does the CHI Transformation System work?
The CHI Transformation System uses the power of ceramic heat, negative ions, and silk to permanently transform hair. This scientific approach permanently transforms frizzy, curly, wavy or even coarse straight hair into beautiful hair by using the CHI iron, the CHI dryer, and silk without the use of any harsh chemicals or ammonia.
What's so special about negative ions?
Negative ions are known as "vitamins of air". The CHI Air Professional hair dryer projects millions of negative ions from its ceramic coil, which breakdown the water molecules into micro fine particles (rather than boiling them as conventional dryers do). These smaller water molecules, along with the silk penetrate the hair shaft more efficiently, thus improving the moisture balance. The hair is replenished with moisture as the cuticles are sealed.
Why ceramic heat?
The CHI iron's plates and coil are made of solid ceramic material that provides a "moist" heat as it straightens the hair. The CHI iron also produces negative ions that help push the silk molecules permanently deep inside the cortex of the hair. The results will be improved hair structure and a sealed cuticle layer.
What are the secrets of silk?
The silk and protein bonds are cationic (positively charged) to penetrate into the negative areas within the hair to build strength and resilience. Silk will provide three dimensional shine and reflection due to its triangular molecule structure. It provides protection against heat, cold, humidity, and free radicals. Hair is negatively charged and silk is positively charged, so according to the law of physics, opposites attract which means that the silk will bond to the hair in an electro-static process. The CHI Transformation System uses silk in the entire system to help repair and improve the hair's condition.
How many touch-ups do you need?
Expect to have the process done at least three times a year.
How long does the process take?
It depends on the length and thickness of the hair. Long hair takes approximately two to four hours to be processed, while short hair about takes about one to three hours.
How long does the straightening last?
Once the hair is processed it is permanently straightened.
There are NO traditional waxes used, therefore time does not "wear down" the process. The straightening comes from a re-structured protein bond inside the hair shaft.
What if I want to wear my hair in a curly style or want my old curls back?
Your hair will respond to any curling iron. If you want to grow out your hair, it can be reprocessed with new solutions to bring back curly hair!

Hair Extensions
What are extensions?
Extensions are attached to small sections of your own natural hair at the root. They look and feel like natural hair. Attaching extensions is a quick, safe, and comfortable process that does not use any chemicals or damage your natural hair. See Process for details.
Will my extentions look natural?
Your extensions will be totally undetectable and I will be able to create an exact match to your own color. They will feel soft, silky and natural and will become like your own hair. However, it will take a few days to adjust to having extensions in your hair. After that initial adjustment period, you will forget that you are even wearing them. You will be able to engage in all your normal activities, like swimming, exercising, and dancing, without worrying about damaging your new hair. See Gallery and About Me for before and after photographs.

How do I care for my extensions?
You are able to wash, brush and style the newly transformed hairstyle as you normally do. It is recommended that you detangle the extensions before washing them by using a pick, wide-tooth comb, or vent brush. Detangle them in a similar way while wet after washing your hair. Never go to sleep with wet hair, as it may cause the hair to mat. There is a range of aftercare products specially designed for your extensions to keep them in perfect condition.
Will hair extensions match my hair color?
Color matches are never an issue. Hair samples are sent in to the hair manufacturer for a perfect match of color and texture.
How long does my hair have to be to get hair extensions?
Your overlapping layer (the layer that covers the extensions' bonds) must be at least 4" long. Extensions can be placed as close as 1" from your hairline.
How much do extensions cost?
The total cost is derived from the purchase of the hair and the fee to design and apply the extensions. The hair is reusable and should last 8 months to one year before new hair will need to be purchased. Learn more about the cost breakdown of hair extensions in the following sections:
How much does the hair cost?
The cost of hair depends on (1) the amount needed to make a full hair extension design, (2) the length and color of the hair, and (3) the 'grade' of the hair.
European hair is the best quality because of its fine, silky texture. All cuticles are in alignment so there will not be any tangling. On the average, most clients spend between $400 and $1000 on the purchase of European hair.
Many clients use 'Remi' or 'Cuticle' hair that is a very nice quality Indonesian hair with a texture just slightly coarser that the European hair. This hair is more economical and works well for most clients. The average cost of this grade of hair runs between $150 and $500.
Thermofibre hair is a brand new fiber that looks and feels just like human hair for a fraction of the cost. It can be colored and it withstands heat styling from curling irons to flat irons! It's amazing! It can be applied with the Euroloc method, microring weave method, or the braiding method.
What does it cost to apply the extensions?
The fee to design and apply the hair extensions depends on the particular technique used. Generally speaking, my fees range between $250-$1200. On average, most applications take from 2 to 8 hours to complete. Additional charges may apply for cutting and styling or coloring extensions.
How long do extensions last?
The length of time the extensions can stay in place before they will need to be removed and reapplied depends on the:
|
(1) Growth rate of the client's hair
(2) Client's level of activity
(3) Degree of oiliness of the client's hair
(4) Hair extension method used
|
|
On average, the extensions will need to be removed and reapplied every 8 to 16 weeks.

Will extensions damage my hair?
After proper placement of the extensions, the responsibility of caring for the extensions transfers to the client. If you are taking proper care of the extensions, they will not cause any damage. You must not pull excessively on the extensions. Comb or brush them with either a wide-tooth comb, pick, or vent brush to detangle. The use of a professional detangling spray is recommended. Use the appropriate styling tools with care. Make certain to have the extensions removed and re-attached by an experienced stylist within the recommended time frame. Wearing them longer than 12 to 14 weeks may result in the hair matting.
Why do the extensions need to be removed and re-attached?
The extensions will grow out as your hair grows out. As this occurs, the weight will shift further down your hair shaft and create tension on your natural hair. Furthermore, it is common that people shed approximately 100 hairs a day. Your natural hair will still shed at its usual rate but will be unable to release due to the extensions attachment. If you wear the hair longer than the recommended time period, those exfoliated hairs may cause excessive matting of your natural hair. Therefore, the hair needs to be removed and re-attached.
